TOMTAR Roofing & Sheet Metal is committed to sustainability and environmental solutions for the construction industry. TOMTAR has been a leader on the environmental roofing front having completed one of the first large scale commercial green roofs in BC more than 15 years ago, before the green movement.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
TOMTAR has completed multiple Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified buildings including the Willowbridge Woman’s Centre and Kelowna General Hospital, designed and built to LEED Gold standards.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a rating system that is recognized as the international mark of excellence for green building in over 132 countries. Since 2002, the Canada Green Building Council and LEED Canada have been supporting the construction of green buildings in Canada.
LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health:
- Sustainable site development
- Water efficiency
- Energy efficiency
- Materials selection
- Indoor environmental quality
