With a history spanning more than 70 years, TOMTAR Roofing has evolved to become an industry leader.

With a history spanning more than 70 years, TOMTAR has continually evolved through the decades to stay on top as an industry leader.

TOMTAR Roofing & Sheet Metal’s Okanagan roots go back pre-1945. General Manager Robert Greenough’s grandfather, Harold Greenough, came to Kelowna to start up a branch of Barr & Anderson, in partnership with Dominion Construction to build SunRype Juice Plant. Barr & Anderson, a corporation servicing the plumbing, heating, roofing and sheet metal sectors was founded in 1896.

In the 1970s, Harold’s son Tom Greenough cut his teeth with the company; he branched out in 1980 with TOMTAR Roofing & Sheet Metal. At that time TOMTAR was a full service company the same as Barr & Anderson, competing in the roofing, sheetmetal, plumbing and heating trades. Although the recession meant times were tough, and competition was fierce, Tom was successful in building TOMTAR into the leading building envelope contractor in the BC Interior.

At about the age of 10, Robert got his own start working weekends and summers in the shop banging out standing seam clips and sweeping floors. As general manager, Robert is now continuing the family business leading it into the future.

Today, TOMTAR Roofing is one of the largest locally-owned roofing contractors in the BC Interior, with its crews working across the region and as far east as Saskatchewan. TOMTAR has one of the most advanced sheet metal shops in the industry. This, combined with top-notch crews – many of them long-time employees – means TOMTAR is in a position to service you and your project no matter the size or complexity.
